Mosonmagyaróváron emlékeztünk azokra a hősökre és áldozatokra, akik 66 esztendővel ezelőtt szembeszálltak a zsarnoksággal. 1956. október 26-án a városi határőrlaktanya előtt a forradalmat éltető békés tüntetőkre leadott sortűznek több tucat halálos áldozata volt. A mészárlás egyik szemtanúja és túlélője Gábor Józsefné Ági néni, aki megosztotta velem az egykor átélt borzalmakat és velem tartott a csendes megemlékezésre. Együtt koszorúztunk a Golgota emlékműnél, majd a résztvevőkkel gyertyát gyújtottunk az áldozatok emlékére. Nem feledjük ‘56 hőseit, akik a mai szabadságunkért is adták életüket!

In Mosonmagyaróvár, we remembered the heroes and the victims who confronted tyranny 66 years ago. In front of the city’s garrison of border guards on 26 October 1956, the firing on peacful demonstrators celebrating the revolution left several dozens dead. One of the witnesses and survivors of the massacre is Mrs. József Gábor, aunt Ági, who shared with me her experiences of the terrible atrocities and joined me in the silent commemoration. We laid a wreath together at the Golgota Memorial, and then lit candles with the participants in memory of the victims. Let us not forget the heroes of ’56 who gave their lives for the freedom we have today!
