President Trump took a shot at Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and suggested he was responsible for Russia’s invasion after he complained about his country being excluded from the U.S.–Russia talks in Saudi Arabia.

“I think I have the power to end this war, and I think it’s going very well. But today I heard, ‘Oh, well, we weren’t invited.’ Well, you’ve been there for three years,” the president told reporters at Mar-a-Lago on Tuesday. “You should have never started it. You could have made a deal.”

Secretary of State Marco Rubio met with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in Riyadh earlier in the day, marking the first high-level face-to-face talks between the countries since Moscow launched its war on Ukraine in February 2022.

President Zelensky reacted angrily to the meeting and postponed an official visit to Saudi Arabia set for this week.

“We were not invited to this Russian–American meeting in Saudi Arabia. It was a surprise for us. I think it was a surprise for many people,” he said at a press conference in Turkey. “We are absolutely honest and open. I don’t want any coincidences. That’s why I’m not going to Saudi Arabia.”
