Péter Szijjártó, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, said political ties between Hungary and the US are "on the cusp of a new golden age".
Following phone talks with US counterpart Marco Rubio on Sunday, Minister Szijjártó said Donald Trump's inauguration marked "a new era in world politics".
During the talks, Minister Szijjártó said he and Rubio "strengthened our commitment to rebuild and renew political ties between the two countries."
While relations "hit rock bottom" during the Democrat administration, Rubio "made it clear that they have a vested interest in rebuilding relations so that they become as good as possible," Minister Szijjártó said.
"We reinforced our mutual commitment to peace, and the secretary of state assured me that President Donald Trump sees ending the three-year war in our neighborhood as a priority. I told Mr Rubio that Hungary will continue ... to support all initiatives that bring us closer to the end of the war and towards peace. Hungary has been living with serious security risks for three years and has suffered serious economic setbacks," Minister Szijjártó said.
"Donald Trump's success in concluding the war is clearly in Hungary's interest."
The new US administration has the same thinking as Hungary on many important issues, he said.
"I welcomed this week's executive orders which are in line with the Hungarian stance on migration, peace and war, support for families, and the respect for sovereignty and patriotism," he said.
Minister Szijjártó and Rubio also discussed "that the previous administration was hostile to us and made a number of decisions motivated by revenge... My colleague told me that rebuilding Hungary-US ties also means, in his book, reviewing those measures," Minister Szijjártó said.
Rubio also expressed hope that they may soon meet personally, Minister Szijjártó added.
