“Everything happening at Károli creates value,” said Minister of the Prime Minister’s Office Gergely Gulyás at the opening ceremony of the academic year of Károli Gáspár Reformed University (KRE), held on Monday at the Reformed Church on Kálvin Square.

In his address, the minister underlined that KRE today ranks among the country’s top universities, an institution consciously and successfully building in the spirit of quality and community. Quoting former Prime Minister József Antall, he recalled that the Reformation, through the elevation of national languages, the birth of national literature, and the translation of the Bible, provided the foundation for the rise of nation-states and shaped Hungarian development for centuries.

Gulyás also referred to the construction of the university’s new campus in Ferencváros, calling it a landmark investment that will not only renew the institution but also revitalize the surrounding district. He emphasized that the design competition had been a joint effort between the Reformed Church, the government, the capital, and the district.

The minister praised the intellectual network surrounding the Reformed Church, noting its outsized role in Hungarian science and public life. He highlighted that with expanded talent programs, strengthened research, and new English-language courses, KRE is increasingly part of the international academic community, opening Hungarian higher education to European and overseas students alike.

“Those starting their studies now will enjoy the best years of their lives,” Gulyás said, wishing students to acquire knowledge, stand by their values, and take part in the living community of the university.
