Róbert Zsigó, Parliamentary State Secretary at the Ministry of Culture and Innovation, announced in a video posted on Facebook on Tuesday that elderly citizens will receive food vouchers worth more than HUF 70 billion in total.

He said the printing of the vouchers is already underway, and distribution will begin shortly. The vouchers—issued in denominations of HUF 1,000, 2,000, 3,000, and 5,000—can be redeemed for cold food items not only in major supermarket chains but also in small rural shops, markets, and from local producers.

According to the state secretary, the vouchers will be placed in personalized envelopes and distributed starting on September 1, with each eligible recipient receiving HUF 30,000 worth.

“In addition to reinstating the 13th-month pension, reducing utility costs, and cutting markups, we are also supporting the elderly with food vouchers,” Zsigó said.

He emphasized that this initiative is part of the government’s broader effort to ease everyday financial pressures on the elderly and ensure their basic needs are met.
