Péter Szijjártó, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, held a phone conversation on Monday with Israeli Minister Gideon Sa’ar to review developments in the Middle East.
In a Facebook post following the talks, Szijjártó said that alongside the expected “decisive” Alaska summit on the war in Ukraine, upcoming events in Gaza are currently a central focus in international politics. He and Sa’ar discussed the evolving regional situation and identified four points of agreement.
First, they agreed that access to humanitarian aid must be expanded. Second, all hostages—including one Hungarian citizen—must be released immediately and unconditionally. Third, the right to live in safety, free from terror and rocket attacks, must be restored for all residents of the region. Finally, Hamas must hold no role or function in the Middle East’s future.
Szijjártó underscored that Hungary will continue engaging in dialogue with regional partners to support these objectives and contribute to stability in the region.
