The Fidesz-Christian Democrat European Parliament group has not supported the EP Agriculture Committee resolution on the future of the common agricultural policy (CAP), as it contains various funding reductions demanded by the European Commission.
According to MTI, the document contains plans for targeted subsidies rather than current area-based support, so fewer farmers would receive funding.
Farm subsidies may fall by up to 20 percent in the future, the statement added, citing a report by news outlet Politico based on "leaks" from the European Commission. "It's obvious they want to set aside money for Ukrainian enlargement at the expense of European and Hungarian farmers", the MEPs said.
Referring to the opposition Tisza Party, they added: "Peter Magyar's Brussels party voted for the resolution in cooperation with the left-wing parties."
"If it were up to them, agricultural subsidies would definitely be reduced... When it comes to this, Hungarian farmers can only count on the government parties," the statement added.
