Péter Szijjártó, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, said the government has been fighting for the homeland, the nation and sovereignty for 15 years, if "we had not done so, all this and everything would be lost now."

"In the past 15 years, we have prevented hundreds of thousands, millions of migrants from flooding Hungary … During the pandemic, we were the fastest to vaccinate and protect people … We have protected and will continue to protect Hungarian children from all kinds of crazy people telling them at school that 'although you look like a boy, feel free to wear a skirt if you want to'," the foreign minister said at an event dubbed 'Fighters Club' in Budapest on Sunday.

"These have been big fights, but the biggest fight is the one happening now. The name of this fight is that we will not allow them to push us into the war raging next door, a killing that we have nothing to do with, and for which we bear no responsibility," he went on.

"We have to see clearly that Ukraine's fight is a heroic one. But Ukraine is fighting for itself. Ukraine is not fighting for us, we have not been attacked, therefore we have no legal or moral obligation here. We have no obligation, but we have a task. And this task is to stay out of this war, protect Hungary and protect the Hungarian people," Minister Szijjártó added.

The minister also sharply criticised Brussels for its continued attempts to turn the issue of energy supply into a political and ideological issue.

"They want us to sever the country's reliable and cheap energy supply and replace it with something that is far more uncertain and far more expensive. No, we will not allow this to happen. We will not allow the Hungarian people to have to pay twice as much for utilities as they do now," he said.

He said there was no greater protest because what Brussels wanted in Hungary had already happened in the majority of EU member states.

"They want to force a puppet government on Hungary, a puppet government that does not care about sovereignty, and only wants to implement the will of Brussels," Minister Szijjártó said.
